Description

The Skorpio Jar Planter — Wide-Mouth Whitewash Ceramic Jar | D72cm × H92cm

The Jar That's Built for Big Planting

Every other jar in the Atlantis range has a narrow neck. A slender opening. A design that prioritises the silhouette of the jar over access to the inside.

The Skorpio Jar does things differently.

With a 65cm wide opening — that's nearly two-thirds of a metre across — the Skorpio is the jar you choose when you want to plant something seriously impressive. A full-sized palm. A broad tropical statement plant. A lush mass of different species all planted together. The kind of planting that looks rich, full, and instantly established.

Same beautiful Atlantis crusty whitewash glaze. Same sea-salvaged character. Same frost-resistant quality. Just with a mouth wide enough to actually use it as a proper planting powerhouse.

This is not a water feature — it is a planting vessel. However, it is frost resistant and rated suitable for water feature applications if you choose to use it that way.

Why the Wide Opening Changes Everything

When a jar has a 26cm opening — like the Kos Jar — you're threading plants in carefully, choosing slender stems and upright grasses that fit through the neck.

When a jar has a 65cm opening, you're dropping in whatever you want.

A mature bird of paradise. A sprawling bromeliad display. A mass of cascading succulents that spill over the edges. A tropical mix with height, texture, and colour. The wide mouth means your planting choices are almost unlimited — and it means the jar can hold a root ball big enough to keep large plants genuinely healthy for years.

At 219 litres of internal volume, the Skorpio has the depth and capacity to support serious, long-term plantings that look impressive from day one and just keep growing.

Round, Wide, and Grounded

The Skorpio sits close to the ground, with a generous belly that spreads out rather than stretching up. It's a broader, more grounded presence — the kind of pot that anchors a space rather than drawing the eye skyward.

At D72cm × H92cm it is nearly a metre tall and almost as wide — a full, rounded silhouette that looks substantial from every angle and commands the space around it without being aggressive about it.

The Whitewash Glaze — Individual Every Time

Like every piece in the Atlantis range, the Skorpio Jar is finished in a hand-applied crusty glaze that looks like it spent decades on the ocean floor. The tones range from pale whitish chalk to warm toasted sandy tones, with the occasional hint of turquoise that shifts in and out depending on the light.

No two Skorpio Jars look identical. The distribution of tones, the texture of the crust, the flickers of turquoise — all of it varies naturally between pieces, making every jar genuinely one of a kind. This is the opposite of a factory-finished pot. It looks found, not made.

Please note: Dimensions are approximate as each jar is hand-made. Slight surface shedding when first unwrapped is normal and does not affect quality or durability.

How the Skorpio Compares to the Kos Jar

Both are from the Atlantis range. Both share the same whitewash glaze. But they are very different jars designed for very different purposes.

Kos Jar (Large) Skorpio Jar (Large)
Shape Tall, slim, narrow-necked Wide, round, open-mouthed
Height 122 cm 92 cm
Opening 26 cm — narrow 65 cm — wide open
Best for Ornamental grasses, slim stems Large plants, full plantings, mixed displays
Character Architectural, dramatic, vertical Generous, grounded, welcoming
Weight 70 kg 115 kg

If you want a tall, narrow jar for a slender statement plant — the Kos Jar. If you want a wide, generous jar for serious, impressive planting — the Skorpio.

What to Plant In It

The generous 65cm opening opens up almost unlimited planting options:

Large tropical plants — bird of paradise, strelitzia, elephant ears, giant bird

✔ Palms and cycads — the wide opening accommodates substantial root balls

✔ Mixed tropical displays — layer height, texture, and colour across the whole bowl

✔ Cascading succulents — fill the wide top with trailing varieties that spill over the edges

✔ Bromeliad collections — group several varieties together for a bold, colourful display

✔ Ornamental trees — standard topiary, olive trees, or lemon trees on a clean stem

Who Is This For?

  • Anyone who wants a statement jar they can actually plant seriously — the wide mouth makes planting easy and choices almost limitless
  • Coastal and Mediterranean garden styles — the whitewash glaze is completely at home near the water
  • Homeowners with large feature plants — finally a jar that can actually hold them properly
  • Resort pools and hotel gardens — the generous round form and wide planted top looks spectacular in luxury outdoor environments
  • Landscape designers — a distinctive anchor piece with the planting capacity to support genuinely impressive displays
  • Contemporary and minimalist gardens — the pale, chalky tones work beautifully in clean, modern palettes

"The narrow-necked jars are beautiful. The Skorpio is the one you can actually plant anything in."
